Mid July Already?

Just thought I’d pop in to say hi and update ya’ll on the farm happenings.

We sold all of our lambs last month already, but we still have goats for sale. Check out our Kijiji listings here: https://www.kijiji.ca/o-profile/39994634/listings/1

The threat of Avian Influenza is now over so we’ve let all our cooped up birds out of the coop, finally. Sadly, we lost our Chantecler rooster to a heart attack on the 1 hot day we had a couple weeks ago, and Chase accidentally let out the Rosecomb Brown Leghorn hens while feeding one day so we can’t offer either of those as hatching eggs now; however, we do have some Beltsville Small White turkey poults ($12/unsexed) available and some muscovy ducklings ($10/unsexed). We did manage to hatch some Sebastopol, but unfortunately only those from our buff project pen hatched. We will be weeding through our stock this fall though so stay tuned if you were a Sebastopol hopeful! Other than that, birds are done for the year.

We won’t have any Dexters available this year (that we know of) since our bull was unable to perform his duties. I’m still pretty upset about having to cull him, but we are looking into doing AI for next year’s calves so we’ll see how that goes. It’s a lot more work than just letting the bull do his job!

And finally, we have people coming to pick up Lacy’s and Gillian’s piglets this weekend. We still have 5 available from Rosie’s litter which is ready to go next weekend, and these are purebred tams if anyone is looking for some nice gilt piglets there are a couple choice girls in this bunch. Weaner piglets are $150/ea. Registered tam gilts are $350/ea.

So that’s about it in a nutshell. The garden is overgrown with weeds and we still have squash to plant, but now that baby and hatching season is over, we look forward to spending a bit of time on the patio, around the firepit, visiting family and taking in some of the Shuswap beauty surrounding us!

Drop us a line if you have questions, or would like to get on the wait list for something. Best way to reach us is facebook message or email. Most of the time we haven’t got a clue where our landline phone is! lol
